Britney Spears got the news she had been waiting for on Thursday when her dad agreed to step down as her conservator after a years-long battle.
While no time scale has been given, the 39-year-old singer is sure to be overjoyed that Jamie, 69, has agreed to step down “when the time is right”.
And the Toxic singer’s mum Lynne, 66, has also welcomed the decision.
In a statement to the New York Times, Lynne’s lawyer said her client was “pleased Jamie has agreed to step down”.
The lawyer added: “Lynne entered into this conservatorship to protect her daughter almost three years ago. She has accomplished what she set out to do.”
The statement comes as Jamie appeared to criticise Britney’s mother in his own filing.

His lawyer wrote: “Instead of criticising Mr. Spears, Lynne should be thanking him for ensuring Ms. Spears well-being and for persevering through the years-long tenure requiring his 365/24/7 attention, long days and sometimes late night, to deal with day-to-day and emergency issues all to protect Ms. Spears and those around her charged with protecting his daughter.
“Lynne has had only limited involvement in Ms. Spears life these last thirteen years. She has not had a parental role in her life for decades.”
According to papers filed on Thursday, the singer’s dad wants to work with the court on an orderly transition to somebody new.
His lawyer writes in the paper: “There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr Spears as the Conservator of the Estate and it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms Spears’ best interests.”
“Nevertheless, even as Mr Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.
“So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator.”

The documents add: “Regardless of his formal title, Mr Spears will always be Ms Spears’ father, he will always love her unconditionally, and he will always look out for her best interests.”
Britney has been under a legal conservatorship since 2008.
The court-ordered arrangement, which is usually reserved for those who are very ill, old or infirm, came after a lengthy public breakdown that led to multiple hospitalisations.
In June, Britney told a court how she had been forced onto contraception and compared her situation to that of a sex traffic victim.
